How trade-up odds, float & EV are calculated
How the CS2 trade-up calculator works
A CS2 trade-up contract takes ten skins of one rarity (five for Covert) and returns one skin of the next rarity. You cannot choose the result, but you can know exactly what is possible and how likely each outcome is. That is what this calculator does: pick your inputs and their floats, press Calculate, and see every outcome with its chance, predicted float, wear and price before you spend anything.
How trade-up odds are calculated
Each input adds an equal share to the odds of its own collection: with ten inputs every skin is worth 1/10 (10%), with five Covert inputs 1/5. That collection share is then split evenly between the next-rarity skins the collection can produce. Example: seven inputs from Collection A and three from Collection B give A 70% and B 30%. If A has two possible outcomes, each gets 35%; B’s single outcome gets the full 30%.
The CS2 trade-up float formula
CS2 does not simply average raw floats. Each input float is first normalized to its own skin’s float range, those values are averaged, and the average is mapped into the output skin’s range:
normalized = (input_float − input_min) / (input_max − input_min)
output_float = output_min + (output_max − output_min) × average(normalized)
Worked example: ten inputs at float 0.05, each from a skin that exists from 0.00 to 0.50. Each normalized value is 0.05 / 0.50 = 0.10, so the average is 0.10. An output skin with a 0.00–0.80 range lands at 0.00 + 0.80 × 0.10 = 0.08: Minimal Wear, just above the 0.07 Factory New cutoff. For Factory New you would need an average normalized float below 0.0875. The calculator runs this for every outcome, so you can see which results cross a wear boundary.
What EV means
Expected value (EV) is the average return of a contract over many rolls: the sum of each outcome’s price multiplied by its chance. Compare EV with the total cost of your inputs to get expected profit, and use profit chance to see how often a single contract actually beats its cost. Prices come from the Steam Community Market 7-day median sale price for the exact skin and wear, and you can enter a marketplace selling fee in the sidebar to see net proceeds.

CS2 trade-up calculator FAQ
Is the CS2 trade-up calculator free?
Yes. The CS-TRADEUP trade-up calculator is free to use in the browser. A free account and Premium only raise limits in other tools such as Trade-Up Explorer.
How many skins do I need for a CS2 trade-up contract?
Ten skins of the same rarity, or five for a Covert trade-up. All inputs must share one rarity, and StatTrak™ inputs cannot be mixed with non-StatTrak™ inputs.
Why is the predicted output float not the plain average of my input floats?
CS2 first normalizes each input float to its own skin’s float range, averages those normalized values, and then maps the average into the output skin’s range. Two inputs with the same float can count differently if their skins have different float ranges.
Where do the outcome prices come from?
By default, from the Steam Community Market median sale price over the last 7 days for the exact skin and wear. Other price sources can be chosen in the sidebar.
Can a trade-up with positive EV still lose money?
Yes. EV is a long-run average over many contracts, but one contract returns only one skin. Check profit chance and your total input cost alongside EV, and add your marketplace selling fee to see net proceeds.
